Abandon Ship is a nail-biting account of the sinking of the tall ship SV Concordia, which suddenly capsized off the coast of Brazil on February 17, 2010. Her crew—48 students, eight teachers and eight crew members, mostly Canadians—found themselves stranded in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in four life rafts, with no means of communication. We follow through their memories and handheld footage as they count down the darkest hours until their miraculous rescue. Directed by Dianne Carruthers-Wood, whose daughter was among the survivors, it is a story told straight from the heart that reveals how the tight bond the crew shared on board kept them afloat in the end. Abandon Ship will air on Feb 10, 2011 at 9 pm et/pt on CBC's Doc Zone.
